Welcome to AKCA Koi Health Advisor Educational Program

Spike Cover, founder of AKCA's Koi Health Advisor program, writes that "there has been some confusion, even controversy, over the mission..." of the KHA program and the role of the advisors in this mission. Whereas the Misson Statement is reviewed, Spike writes that "First and foremost, the KHA program is about enjoying the hobby. Everything pales in comparison to this goal and all other aspects of the mission statement are intended to be supportive of this primary goal. We are pleased to report that the KHA program has significantly contributed to the enjoyment of those involved and also to that of others who have directly and indirectly benefited from the efforts of the KHAs.

Spike comments that "healthy fish contribute significantly to our happiness, and to achieve this goal, the KHA program promotes education to improve preventive health management for our koi. The program supports and encourages KHAs to teach koi health with the understanding that an ounce of prevention is indeed worth a pound of cure." KOI USA hopes that every koi hobbyist will become more familiar with the KHA program as a result of this article, and that everyone will benefit from this effort to clarify what KHA can do under the program guidelines.
